Just when we thought we might be in the clear with COVID and were beginning to get comfortable not wearing masks in public, apparently there is a new 'variant' we've all been hearing about. According to the Centers for Disease Control or CDC and new data, the Delta variant is a more contagious strain.

According to the CDC,

  • The Delta variant is more contagious: The Delta variant is highly contagious, more than 2x as contagious as previous variants.

Typically at times like this, concerned parents, family, friends and neighbors talk. I personally had 'heard' more children were testing positive for COVID. You never want it to affect your household or family but according to the Midland Reporter Telegram, at MISD, since school began on August 2nd, 'nearly 300 students and staff members have tested positive.'

As of the end of last week, Midland Independent School District is reporting that 217 students and 71 members of staff have tested positive for COVID.

In Odessa according to Medical Center Health System's Facebook page, elective surgeries have been suspended once again in order to 'expand the Critical Care overflow which is already full of COVID patients.'

The CDC still recommends cleaning and disinfecting your home, washing hands on a regular basis, wearing masks and staying home if you think you have been exposed to others who have tested positive for COVID.

There is also information on the website of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention about the COVID-19 vaccine if that is something you are interested in finding out more about.
