New Texas Law Requires 10 Commandments in Schools
A new Texas law has been passed and is causing a massive amount of debate about what is acceptable in public schools, and schools located in Midland-Odessa are no exception.

New Texas Law Affecting All Texas Public Schools From Elementary to College
It's been passed and is on its way to becoming a legitimate Texas law. The law indicates that all Texas public schools will be REQUIRED by law to have the 10 Commandments prominently displayed in their classrooms. As a part of Senate Bill 10, the bill was signed into law on June 21, 2025, and will go into effect on September 1, 2025
Supporters Rally Ongoing Support
As reported by Kut News, Gov. Dan Patrick has been very vocal about his position regarding Senate Bill 10. He claims this will restore "moral guidance" and give Texas students a sense of reconnecting with historical values deeply embedded in American society.
Opposition and Critics
Every time some religious aspect in schools is brought up, naysayers point out that incorporating religious aspects in schools is a clear violation of the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment. Aside from being technically illegal, it also infringes on religious freedom since not everyone has the same belief system.
What Now?
Texas is highly likely to face an injunction before the law takes effect on September 1st. Multiple families have already filed court challenges to somehow prevent the law from becoming official.
Conclusiuon
It is important to acknowledge the respect for anyone who agrees with the Senate Bill 10. However, the same amount of respect needs to be extended towards anyone who opposes it. In a perfect world, we would all believe the same thing. However, that is not reality. Having said that, in my personal opinion, I believe that this has no place in schools. No one is telling anyone what to believe; it's simply a matter of respect for those who are on the opposite side of the spectrum, regardless of which side they agree with.
