Former Furr’s Cafeteria In The Odessa Mall Has Now Reopened As This New Restaurant

Who remembers...growing up going with your parents or grandparents to eat at Furr's in the Odessa mall? I sure do! And I would continue to go up until last year when they closed their doors for good after what we thought was temporarily shutting down in 2020 due to the pandemic. So myself along with many Odessans wondered what would take its place? And now we have our answer...

El Malecon Mariscos & Bar! And as you can see just by the sign out front this place is very inviting. There is already a Midland location but the one in the Music City Mall opened recently, having taken over the old Furr's Cafeteria.

With a complete remodel on the inside, each time I pass by when I'm strolling through the mall, you can tell Odessans are happy with the changes and are loving this new Permian Basin hot spot, it stays packed.

You can dine in at El Malecon or they offer takeout and delivery and items on the menu include everything from wings to ceviche, various aguachiles, caldo de res, menudo, my personal favorite camarones al coco (coconut shrimp), fajitas, quesadillas, mini tacos, cheeseburgers and anything and everything else you could possibly be craving. The food is good!

But what everyone is raving about is the fabulous bar! Las Marias Bar is clearly well stocked and has televisions to gather the crew and watch your favorite sports team. Check out the photos I took when I checked the place out recently:
