The skating rink at Odessa's Music City Mall, once an iconic ice rink, has become a beloved destination since its transformation in 2021. This community favorite continues to bring joy and cherished memories to locals, proving that change can lead to something amazing.
Ask anyone who has spent an extended time in Odessa, Texas and they will tell you about the infamous Music City Mall. Originally constructed in 1980, the mall has seen its fair share of changes over the decades. However, one thing seems to be certain to never change- the carpet!

Who remembers...growing up going with your parents or grandparents to eat at Furr's in the Odessa mall? I sure do! And I would continue to go up until last year when they closed their doors for good after what we thought was temporarily shutting down in 2020 due to the pandemic. So myself along with many Odessans wondered what would take its place? And now we have our answer...
Be real. As a parent, anytime you go to the mall, you do what you can to distract the kids from the candy store or the popcorn place, or even the Dippin' Dots, geez the struggle is real. That was me the other day at the Odessa mall as I was strolling for the after Christmas sales. But it didn't work. My child found the 'hot, new thing,' a cool new place that we just had to step into.
I love to roller skate. Or should I say I loved it as a little girl. It's been quite a few years since I have put on a pair of skates but I would imagine it's like riding a bike? Friday night's in my hometown were made for the local roller rink, which I believe is still open to this day! I had my 11th birthday party there many moons ago. I am that mom. The mom that doesn't feel the need to drag my kids up and down every single house in our neighborhood just to see how much candy my kids can get. It's not a contest for me. I would rather visit family and close friends and grab a few things and head back home and order pizza and watch fun Halloween movies or something.
When my oldest was a little guy, I remember every single time we went to the Music City Mall in Odessa he always wanted to 'go see the ice.' That was over 20 years ago that he began his fascination with the ice rink and zamboni. lol If you have ever had the pleasure of skating on the ice one afternoon or weekend or even having a birthday party at the Music City Mall ice rink, consider yourself luc
It's Easter Bunny time! I mean, if you don't have a photo of yourself as a child or your own children screaming, crying, snot running down your face, trying to leap out of the Easter Bunny's lap...is it even Easter? lol I have both. Myself and my children. However, I eventually grew to love the Easter Bunny, because (somewhere) there is a photo of 80's me in a plastic Easter Bunny costume huntin
One of Odessa's longest running businesses is officially closing its doors for good. I remember when I was younger, my parents would find the coolest trinkets and furniture for our home. I loved to go shopping with them at one particular store because I walked in wide-eyed in awe of all the beautiful items this particular place offered. I'm talking about Golden Brass in the Music City Mall.
