Should Business Re-Open? What’s Your Opinion?

There are so many mixed opinions about if we should all just open right back up for business or not. I have to admit, at this point I'm not sure what to think. I just really don't think there's a clear right answer. Either way, we are all gonna have to live with the consequences. I really do see both sides, and I think anyone who is dead set on either side, either has a close personal reason for it, or they haven't really paid attention to the other side of the story.

On one hand, lets say we re-open. The economy starts building up and we see light at the end of the tunnel. That's ideally what would happen and of course that's what we all want. However, what is ideal, what we want, and what is going to actually happen, likely aren't all the same thing. The Spanish Flu killed so many people. A lot of people don't know that it had 2 waves. The first wave didn't even kill half as many as the second. So let's say we open up, do well for a month or two, only to find out it got worse and we have to shut down all over again, but now it has to be for longer. The economy can't take that kind of hit. This in my mind makes a good argument for staying closed.

On the other hand, let's say we stay closed. For one, the mortality rate of this virus is very low. Unemployment is going higher and higher by the day and they can't even keep up with the demand for claims as it is. Down time, mixed with lack of income, mixed with desperation, can make for some REALLY ugly situations. I'm talking riots, robberies, and violence. I wouldn't call myself a history buff, but I've read and watched enough documentaries to know what happens when you take several million people and don't give them enough to go around. Persia used to be one of the greatest and wealthiest empires in the world. Now look at what used to be Persia. For me, there really is no clear solution, and I'm sure it's the same for the world leaders we are looking to for answers, when really, they're just people like us.

I don't think they have the answers, just like any one of us. I think after seeing the kind of scrutiny China has fallen under, everyone is afraid to pull the trigger on getting back to work. Right now, we all have someone to blame and it isn't us. I think that has a lot to do with every other country's hesitancy to make a solid decision. All I know for sure, is I damn sure wouldn't want to be in their shoes.
