How Midland And Odessa Handle The Windy Days Of West Texas
Last week was a crazy week for the Permian Basin. Winds got between 30-40mph with gusts up to 55mph+. Visibility went to zero on the highways and caused many wrecks and standstills.

Last year I got caught in a Haboob on my way to Lamesa. I had to pull over several times because I could not see through the dust and dirt. What's worse is I had just bought my car and the tumbleweeds were tumbling extra hard that day and scratched up my new car!
West Texas winds are something you have to get used to. I have a friend who moved to Odessa from San Antonio and he didn't even know what a haboob was. The first wind storm he ever experienced was on January 17, 2025. That day left him wondering how West Texans deal with the crazy winds all the time, it's simple, with a sense of humor.
HOW WEST TEXANS HANDLE WINDY DAYS
One thing about us in West Texas is we love to poke fun at ourselves. With dust in every crevice of everything we own, we have to. Out-of-towners may not understand the "laugh so we don't cry" motto we follow in the crazy weather. I found some Reels that show exactly how funny West Texans can be and how it can help pass the time when the wind takes over.
