I love it when local businesses are highlighted in the Permian Basin.

I came across a post on Facebook highlighting a unique gym for Black History Month, Game Ready USA.

Some of the best athletes in the Permian Basin have trained at Game Ready, but many locals know little about the gym.

What Is Game Ready USA

Game Ready is a sports training facility with roots in the Permian Basin. The owners, Jamel Brown, Dominique Brown, and Grant Brown, are brothers who were born and raised in Odessa and Midland.

People often think Game Ready is just for experienced student-athletes but it welcomes kids and adults of all ages. Whether you are experienced in the athletic department or have never stepped into a gym, Game Ready will welcome you. The gym has trainers to fit every person's needs.

Don't feel like working with a trainer? Get a membership and enjoy their full gym for a great workout.

How Game Ready USA Started

The location on 3610 W Wall St in Midland isn't originally where Game Ready started, it was at Beal Park in 2011.

The original form of Game Ready was an outdoor speed and agility summer camp. It was meant to keep kids and teens game-ready during their off-season.

What started with just a few kids at a park soon had almost 100 kids singing up for the summer camp. The Brown brothers realized their next step was creating a permanent home for the speed and agility camp to call their own.

A Special Kind of Game Ready

Not only is Game Ready USA community based the gym also has a non-profit named A Special Kind of Game Ready.

This non-profit started in honor of the Brown's little sister who has special needs. Dominique noticed how much she wanted to participate in the speed and agility classes with the other kids.

That made him want to give kids with disabilities and special needs a safe space and program to be physical while having fun. Dominique wanted to showcase how truly "special" special needs kids are.

If you want more information on how to donate to their non-profit or just on what programs Game Ready USA has to offer, check out their Facebook.
