Many of us are absolutely anticipating the 3-day Memorial Day Weekend for the cookouts, the weekend getaways, the time spent with family and for some a day off from work. And there is nothing wrong with that, however we must not forget to honor our fallen heroes this Memorial Day either. This is a good time as a family to educate the little ones as to what Memorial Day is really about.

Womansday.com compiled a list of things to do with your family to observe the holiday.

4 MEMORIAL DAY ACTIVITIES TO DO AS A FAMILY TO COMMEMORATE THE HOLIDAY:

1. draw a sidewalk mural-let the kids create a mural of the American flag, a beautiful picture using the colors red, white, and blue, or something as simple as a message like Thank You Veterans. This is an excellent activity to do as a family.

3. arts & crafts-as you educate your little ones about the importance of the Memorial Day holiday, stop by a dollar store, load up on some paints, stickers, or markers and let the children get creative and show their patriotic side. Draw and color and picture about what Memorial Day means to them.

4. reach out to a veteran-we all have a special veteran in our lives. Someone who shares their stories, has served our country proudly and would love to hear from you especially on Memorial Day. Take that person out for a meal or cook a meal or dessert for them and take it to their home. Let the kids help with the preparation and explain to them that this is something small we can all do to show our gratitude.
