Texas Ditch Inspections, Keep Stickers? Your Registration Questions Answered
All of Texas couldn't wait until they took away state inspections, but the question I have heard from many Texans is: Do we still get the physical registration sticker?
Texas Does Away with State Inspections
Everyone in the Lonestar State was excited when Texas announced they would do away with vehicle safety inspections in 2025. Granted there are some exceptions.
Some counties will require emissions tests. Emissions tests will be needed for most major cities with high pollution including Brazoria, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Montgomery, Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, Travis, Williamson, and El Paso Count.
Even though non-commercial vehicles don't require a safety inspection, the inspection fee will be added to your registration fee.
All commercial vehicles will still need to get a safety inspection.
Do Texans Still Need to Get Registration Stickers?
Now that we are in the second month without safety inspections, I have noticed a common confusion among most Texans: Do we still get registration stickers?
The short answer is yes!
The only thing the state of Texas did away with is taking your car to get a safety inspection before you can register it.

The process is pretty much the same. Your vehicle must be insured to renew your registration. If you do it in person at your local county tax office you will receive your sticker the same day. If you do it online, it will be mailed to you and could take up to three weeks. Your registration fee depends on the county you register your vehicle in.
