Did K-Mart And Walmart Ever Exist At The Same Time In The Permian

Back in 2002, it was announced that K-Mart in Midland, Texas would be closing for good. It's been about 20 years! I can remember hitting up the K-mart on Midland Dr. in Midland so many times. Why do NACHOS jump in my mind? LOL So, the question of K-mart and Walmart existing at the same time is interesting but obvious.

According to Midland historian Kevin Chase, YES there was a K-mart and Walmart open in the Permian Basin at the same time. In fact, there was a K-mart up to about 2002 in Midland. And, yes of course there was a Walmart at that time as well.

Yes, there was a Walmart and K-mart at the same time and did you know that the 1st Walmart in Midland was at the Hobby Lobby location in Midland?

Do you remember the K-mart on Illinois and Midland Drive in Midland? Yes, I was a K-Mart Kid! I was Team K-mart back in the day. My mom's #1 go-to was K-Mart. Enough said. The list of things that I owned because of K-Mart when I was a kid was long.

As a kid, I have fond memories of the SNACK section near the cash registers. Wasn't there HAM SANDWICHES made with hamburger bread? I believe they were right next to the awesome huge Popcorn Machine and of course the ICEE machine! And, yes the NACHOS, why do Nachos keep popping up in my mind about K-mart?
