It is quite exciting to hear that many events that may have been cancelled last year due to the pandemic will be back this year. That is the case for an event that is right around the corner. The Juneteenth celebration that takes place every year is coming back with a theme of 'Our Future Matters.' With Juneteenth falling on Saturday the 19th this year, Juneteenth festivities will be held all weekend long, June 18th through the 20th.

It all kicks off on Friday the 18th, with Dallas Black Dance Theatre at the Ector Theatre from 7-9 p.m. Then on Saturday June 19th, the day will begin with a variety of activities for the kiddos complete with face painting, a performance by Shout Cheerleading and food to fill their little tummies. This is from 10 am to 1 pm and will take place at Blackshear Auditorium.

The annual Juneteenth pageant will happen this year and is scheduled from 4-6 pm. Other events throughout the weekend include:

  •  a Gospel Celebration with Rev. Eddie Jenkins from Good Street Baptist Church of Dallas from 3:30 to 6 pm at Blackshear Auditorium
  • Juneteenth Volleyball Tournament - games will take place at Ector Fieldhouse
  • Annual (35 and older) Legends Juneteenth Basketball Tournament-June 20 beginning at 1 pm-all games will be played at Woodson Boys and Girls Club-if interested call 432-978-8908
  • Dancer/White Car Show-1 to 5 pm June 19th -Woodson Park in the east parking lot
