It’s about time!!! Don’t get me wrong. I love new music but the golden age of hip hop and rap for me was in the early 90’s when a little group known as NWA busted the scene WIDE OPEN!!!
This was new music with a very aggressive and very unheard message. NWA caused a movement and put things in people’s faces that they didn’t want to see. They’ve been reduced to a simple “gangster rap” title but that’s not what it was about at all. NWA arose out of the ashes of the crack cocaine epidemic in the inner city during the time. Gangs were making so much money and taking over the streets so much that police didn’t know what to do other than meet it with brute force. This caused a lot of violence towards innocent people in the inner city. THAT is what NWA was all about. Spreading awareness, just because you lived in a bad neighborhood didn’t mean you deserved to be treated like you were in a military state.
Sadly that’s what a lot of inner city drug task forces treated people like because with the growing gang and drug related violence they knew no other way to deal with it. The media at the time forced these images aside and for a very long time it went unnoticed by mainstream America. The members of NWA were tired of being ignored and despite the fact that NO ONE would buy hard core rap at the time, they simply did what they knew they were good at. They made a chart topping album with next to no support at all. They didn’t do it for the money, fame, glory, or women. They did it because they lived it every single day. They were 200% the real deal. This is why they are and will forever be the most dangerous group of all time. STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON! Here’s the trailer in case you haven’t seen it.
