Texas Woman With Down Syndrome Makes Her Dream Come True
Leah Meyer, a San Antonio woman who has Down syndrome, has gained a special place in our hearts. Last year, she sat down with MySA along with her parents and expressed that it was her dream to have her own business. She even had a name for it, The Mermiad Cafe. Several months later, she is now a business owner, thus making her dream a reality.

The Dream That Started A Movement
What started as a YouTube channel where Ms. Meyer cooked and baked delicious desserts for the cameras has completely manifested into an actual business with a physical address. To be fair, there have been businesspeople who have had Down Syndrome in the past. However, what makes Leah's dream particularly special is the type of business she wanted to create. The Mermaid Cafe, in retrospect, can be compared to every other cafe out there in the world, except this one is different. The business has been called a disabilities-first establishment. This means employees, some of whom may find difficulty finding roles in some situations, are welcomed with open arms to work at The Mermiad Cafe. It has been said that people with disabilities will cover every aspect of the business. Ms. Meyer is empowering and encouraging people with disabilities by providing jobs for individuals who may or may not have had limited job opportunities in the past.
We would like to wish Ms. Meyer success in her new business venture. Would you visit this cafe?
