Texas C-Store Battle Heats Up For Buc-ee’s

Living in Texas, you'd be hard pressed to find someone who did not know of the existence of the popular Texas-based C-Store Buc-ee's.  Despite our dream of every C-Store being a Buc-ee's, that is simply not a reality.

A New Buc-ee's Competitor Appears

Iowa-based C-Store Casey's has been aggressively expanding as of late.  In 2025 alone, a recent acquisition has enabled the company to expand into three additional states, with Texas being one of them.

Some of the fans of the brand are saying that Casey's is a worthy competitor to Buc-ee's.  However, the only people we can see saying that are people from outside the state and or who have never experienced a Buc-ee's firsthand.

Casey's specialty is said to be pizza. Some even go on to say that the pizza at Casey's is unmatched.  Texans hear something like this and immediately want to give anyone who thinks Casey's is superior a good old-fashioned Texas "Bless your heart".  In Texas, most of us know that Buc-ee's specialty is pretty much everything.

Coming to Texas

In 2023, Casey's acquired Lone Star Food Stores and announced that they would be rebranding 22 stores as Casey's as their first wave of entering Texas.  They also acquired CEFCO, and plan on rebranding 198 stores into Casey's locations, with 148 of them being in Texas.

Comparison to Buc-ee's

The real truth is that there is no real comparison between the two brands.  Buc-ee's has a massive cult-like following, with the average store (in recent years) ranging around 70,000 square feet.  All while Casey's average store is roughly under 5,000 square feet.

Conclusion

I'm sure Casey's has delicious pizza, food, and amenities.  In fact, I would love to try it one day simply for the sake of hearsay.  I also respect their ambition for the aggressive expansion of their brand.  However, fans comparing the company to Buc-ee's may be overestimating the vast reach, scale, and impact of the Buc-ee's brand.
