The San Antonio Waffle House Snaffu

In the past few days, the city of San Antonio, Texas, was buzzing with excitement.  There had been rumors that the popular restaurant chain Waffle House was going to make its debut in the market.  The news quickly spread throughout the Internet, and thousands of people shared it online, all while showcasing their excitement.  The problem?  It was all just a hoax.

San Antonio Waffle House Hoax Origin

The source of the hoax seemed to have come from a popular Facebook group called San Antonio Restaurants.  A group with over 300 thousand members.  An image of a shopping center on the Far West side of town showed where the future Waffle House location was going to be built.  It did not take long for the post to get thousands and thousands of shares and comments, essentially going viral.

Debunking the Rumors

The rumors stirred a lot of emotion and speculation until the commercial developers who own the area where the faux Waffle House was set to be placed in stepped in and confirmed that the image was fake.  It was a real image that showed actual businesses in the shopping center, but with the Waffle House logo digitally altered into it.

Angry In San Antonio

Once it was established that the image was a hoax, it made a lot of people angry.  Especially those individuals who got their hopes up that Waffle House was finally going to enter the market.  This is similar to what happened to Midland-Odessa earlier in 2025 when pranksters started a rumor that Buc-ee's was moving into the market.  People believed it and got angry when it was discovered as yet another hoax.
