Stop the Stomach Flu Stampede! Best Texas-Sized Tip to Beat Norovirus in Midland
With the rise of people getting sick here in the Lone Star State, I figured it would be a good time to review how to properly wash our hands. When Covid hit, I was baffled by how many people needed instructions on how to wash their hands properly.

NOROVIRUS
Not only is the flu taking its toll on Texas, but the norovirus has made its presence known.
According to the CDC, Norovirus is a very contagious virus. There are many different types of norovirus illness. The most common symptoms of the virus are diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, and stomach pain. Other symptoms include fever, headache, and body aches. Most people will kick the illness within 1 to 3 days.
Even though you can kick norovirus within a few days, you can spread it for two weeks or more after you feel better. Norovirus is easily spread by direct contact with people who have it or by touching contaminated objects and surfaces, then putting your unwashed hands in your mouth.
Fun fact: hand sanitizer does not kill norovirus. Washing your hands is the best way to prevent the virus from spreading.
HOW TO PROPERLY WASH YOUR HANDS
Now, let's discuss proper hand washing. You should always wet your hands first with clean water, whether cold or warm.
Turn off the water, and then get some soap. Rub your hands together so you can create a good lather. Lather between your fingers, the back of your hands, and under your nails.
Take your time when you are scrubbing your hands. Scrub for at least 20 seconds and instead of counting to 20, hum the "Happy Birthday" song twice.
After your hum session, rinse your hands off and dry them with a clean towel or air dry.
Now I understand we can't always get to a sink with soap, so sometimes sanitizer will have to do. Let's just all try to be courteous about, not just our health, but others. Stay clean Texas!
