As a mother of two boys, when I saw this story on the local news it really tugged at my heart strings. For a number of reasons but mainly because both of sons have been very active from the time they were old enough to play any and all sports. We have traveled near and far for both to be able to do what they enjoy. Thus is the case no doubt for little 8 year old Leo Hernandez from Odessa....

Leo's favorite sport in particular is baseball and he plays for Beastmode, a little league 8U team. According to the United Baseball Parents of America Facebook page, Leo's family is heavily involved in not only this select baseball team but also in the area little league organization.

However, over the weekend, Leo became very sick, had trouble breathing and collapsed. He is now in Lubbock receiving the care that he needs and is fighting for his life. Friends, family members and team mates, gathered in Odessa on Monday night to hold a prayer vigil for this sweet boy.

Prayers are being requested for 8 year old Leo and a fundraiser is being held this Wednesday, June 9th beginning at 6 pm at the Floyd Gwyn pool. The fundraiser is an effort to help out Leo's family and the medical expenses they will incur while he is in the hospital. Asado or brisket plates will be available for purchase for twelve dollars along with sides and a drink.
