After over 20 years, the Stonehenge replica located at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin remains one of Odessa's most unique and cherished landmarks.

The replica itself is the brainchild of two businessmen Bobby Baldridge and Eddie Phinney who erected the mini Stonehenge back in 2004.  The construction was closely mirrored and inspired by the real Stonehenge which is located in the English countryside.  The stones are made of limestone and great lengths went into making it look as authentic as possible despite being smaller in scale.  The positioning of the stones and the overall layout are almost exactly the same in comparison to each other.

The site has been a local favorite for date nights, students looking for a good quiet place to read, or even as a tourist attraction that locals show visitors from out of town who visit Odessa.  There is no cost of admission and also serves as a great spot for teaching children about history or architecture.  It has also become iconic for professional photographers, travelers, or even random people who want to take a picture of it.  Much like the original Stonehenge, photos of the replica are scattered all over the Internet and social media.

So what's next for our little version of Stonehenge?  The University of Texas at the Permian Basin has no plans to remove the site anytime soon.  This beloved local landmark looks like it will continue to stand for many years to come- continuing to be there for any and everyone who chooses to enjoy and admire its existence.
