Odessa, Texas --  In 2025, school shootings are happening far too often.  It is a problem that has plagued the United States for decades.  So the potential threat or even hearsay of a possible situation that can result in loss of life is taken VERY seriously.

On Wednesday, Odessa High School was put on a complete lockdown due to suspicions that someone on campus had a weapon.  Shortly before 3 pm, the campus security officer received a report that someone in one of the OHS parking lots had a gun.  The school took immediate action and locked the campus down.

18-year-old senior Luis Tarango and two other 16-year-old boys were taken into custody with charges ranging from Unlawful Carry of Weapons (Class A Misdemeanor).  Before the lockdown was put into place, one of the boys was seen forcefully forcing students into a room.  His motive is still unclear, but this resulted in an additional charge of Unlawful Restraint (Felony 3). Once the lockdown was initiated, the student was seen running into one of the school buildings.  Police made quick action to arrive on campus to search for the boy, where he was eventually found.  However, his alleged weapon was not recovered.

Overall, the lockdown lasted roughly 20 minutes.  Kudos to the OPD for their haste in responding to the incident since this had the potential to end badly.
