The Midland, Texas Police Department is finding unorthodox ways of connecting with the community.  They have launched an initiative that essentially gives the general public insight into the day-to-day operations of the department.

Designated The Citizens Police Academy is a 10-week program designed to give anyone who lives in Midland, Texas a better understanding of the inner workings of the Midland Police Department.  Attendees will attend weekly classes that will teach the public about the history of the MPD, it will also include lectures and some real-world ride-alongs with some of Midland's finest.

The best thing about this program is that it is absolutely free.  Plus, there is no registration fee.  All costs will be taken care of by the MPD.  They even promise to provide any and all classroom materials that may be needed.  Classes will be held every Tuesday evening from 6 PM - 9 PM beginning on February 25th.
