The Midland-Odessa region has grown quite a reputation in terms of annual DWI incidents.  Recent statistics claim that we have some of the highest alcohol-related fatalities in Texas.  Naturally, those types of statistics are concerning for anyone who locally operates a motor vehicle.

Alcoholism is not only limited to drinking and driving. Drinking in its entirety has been known to be an issue in the Permian Basin as a whole.

One local group is looking to normalize being sober.  Introducing the Midland Mocktail Hour.  A group who's tag reads "The Midland Sobriety Society is A West Texas Community for Sober & Sober Curious Women & Men."

@bestofmidlandtx Are you sober curious? We sat down with Kate Christian of the Midland Mocktail Hour to discuss a rise in mocktails and mocktails events. Full podcast available on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts #sobercurious #sobercuriousmovement #mocktails #midlandtx ♬ original sound - Best of Midland Texas

This group of locals are dedicated to spreading awareness that there is support for anyone who struggles with sobriety.  Offering a "safe space" for people in need or to help find alternative things to do in the community that do not involve alcohol.

The group has grown quite the buzz on social media as of late- appearing on a recent Best Of Midland podcast earlier this year.  They even gained some press recently- namely due to their "Dry-January" campaign.  A month-long event encouraging everyone to not drink for the entire month of January.

We wish everyone at the Midland Mocktail Hour the absolute best and encourage them to keep fighting the good fight.  You have our support.
