If you ask any Midlander, they will tell you how great the city is. Locals are friendly and love to advise newcomers in the area. Just avoid talking about how similar Midland and Odessa are because they will not take this lightly.
Oilfield culture has Midland known as a popular city in the Lone Star State. Locals hold their heads high and will have no issue telling about the great things in Midland.
Not understanding the city can leave you with a sour taste. If you visit from out of town, it feels like driving into a small dirt town with nothing to do. That's why the locals take it upon themselves to become personal tour guides.
Now I know all I have given is opinions but numbers don't lie and I have all the numbers for you!
WHY MIDLAND IS ONE OF THE BEST-PERFORMING CITIES
According to local news, Midland was named one of the top 15 performing cities and ranked within the top five smaller cities in the nation. In the survey done by the Milken Institute, they used 13 key metrics including labor market conditions, economic opportunities, and high-tech industry growth. Besides Austin, Midland was one of two cities in Texas to rank as a Tier 1 city.
Midland's wage growth increased 37.7% from 2015 to 2023 and jumped 16.1% from 2022 to 2023. Jobs grew by 10.1% from 2018-2023 and 6.6% from 2022-2023. Last but not least, GDP increased 44.5% from 2018-2023 and grew from 2022-2023.
Midland is def not the perfect city, but the numbers show that The Tall City is full of opportunities.
