La Llorona Sighted in Texas? Unveiling the Mystery Behind the Legend!
La Llorano was a common name I heard growing up. As a kid living in Fabens, Texas, it was mainly used to scare the kids. Our older relatives used to tell us that La Llorona would get us if we stayed outside too late in the dark.
As I got older, La Llorona's story would always change. Almost every person told it differently. Her name would vary as well. When I moved to Odessa people called her the Weeping Woman or the Wailer. Regardless of who shared the tale, it would still creep me out.
THE ORIGIN STORY OF LA LLORONA
Like I said before there are so many versions of who La Llorona was and her story. I tried to research it but from what I could tell no one knows where or how it began but the tale is most popular in South America.
The most common story of La Llona begins with her getting married and having two children with her husband. When she discovers that her husband is having an affair, she drowns her children, in a river, in a jealous rage. When she realizes what she did she jumps in to try and get them but ends up being swept away and drowns herself. It is said that she was so grief-stricken her soul could not rest and she now spends eternity wandering river banks and bodies of water looking for her kids.
SIGHTINGS IN TEXAS
If you are wondering how you would recognize her, you would know. Even though many encounters describe her somewhat differently, most knew exactly who she was when they spotted her. One of the most common versions of her is of her dressed all in white, walking on a water bank, and wailing.
A man saw La Llorano while crossing the San Bernard River Bridge in East Bernard, Texas. While crossing the bridge he was startled when he looked over to his passenger seat to see a woman dressed all in black with a black veil covering her face. He was so terrified that his reaction was to step on the gas and cross the bridge as fast as possible. When he crossed the bridge the woman was no longer in the passenger seat.
This is not the only encounter in Texas. Some notable sightings come from El Paso and Houston. Here is the map where you can find her sightings in Texas and everywhere in the United States.
