Beloved Texas Grocery Store H-E-B and Its Humble Beginnings
Ask just about anyone who lives in Texas and it's almost a certainty that they have heard of HEB. Today, HEB pulls in an annual sales revenue topping 46 billion dollars annually, making it the largest privately-held grocery chain in the world.

While those kind of numbers are certainly impressive, did you know that the store was initially opened with only $60? Dating back to Kerrville, Texas in 1905, a single woman named Florence Butt opened a small yet simple grocery store.
However, it wasn't until 1919 that her son Howard took over the business, rebranded it, and expanded it until it became what we know of today.

In more modern times, HEB has developed a brand with die-hard fans spread out throughout Texas and Mexico. The loyalty of some of their customers can be best described as an almost cult-like following.
Part of why people love the brand so much is not only low and fair prices, but also the sense of community involvement and exceptional customer service the store provides. For example, they provide hunger campaigns for the homeless or provide relief to the community through inclement weather conditions just to name a few.
From a small grocery store in Kerrville, to have grown to over 400+ stores in Texas and Mexico, HEB has definitely come a long way with a very promising future.
