How The Permian Basin Can Help A Local Food Bank Feed Families This Holiday
Life can sometimes kick us while we are down, especially during the holidays. As inflation continues to rise and grocery prices remain unaffordable for so many families in our community, West Texans rely on local organizations to help when they need extra help.
ABOUT THE WEST TEXAS FOOD BANK
West Texas Food Bank was founded in Odessa, Texas, and has been helping the Permian Basin since 1985. In its first year of operation, the Food Bank was able to give 200,000 pounds of food to 40 partner agencies.
West Texas Food Bank still calls Odessa home plus operates a Volunteer and Educations center in Midland. They are a member of both Feeding America, the nation's largest hunger-relief network, and Feeding Texas, a food bank that helps Texas fight against hunger.

Long lines are becoming the norm at distribution sites, with families, seniors, and children relying on the Food Bank more than ever before. For a lot of families, the holiday cheer is overshadowed by worrying about when they will get their next meal. With the rising cost of living felt throughout the Permian basin, West Texas food bank is distributing thousands of pounds of food but it is still not enough to keep up with the growing demand
