It's December and we have no shortage of reminders all around. The Queen of Christmas, Mariah Carey,  is all thawed out and everyone has already started putting up their decorations.

Christmas lights are lighting up the night across Texas. Many homes are covered with lights, and some even have their trees decorated as well. Businesses are getting into the festive spirit with their decorations, and most cities are transforming their downtown areas into Christmas wonderlands.

People love Christmas and are full of holiday spirit. One popular way to express this holiday cheer is by decorating their cars. Some people add reindeer antlers and noses to their vehicles, while others go even further by decking out their cars with Christmas lights.

I always wondered if this was legal because it is distracting while driving down the highway. Let's look into whether this is legal or illegal in Texas.

Unless you are participating in a parade, it is illegal to decorate your car with Christmas lights. If you park your car and do not drive it, you are free to put as many lights as you like. However, if you choose to drive your decorated car, you could receive a fine. While there are no specific laws that forbid lights on your vehicle, it may violate several traffic codes.

It's important to use common sense in this situation. I understand that your car, decorated with Christmas lights, might look festive, but it can be distracting to other drivers on the road. Each time I've seen a vehicle decorated with Christmas lights, it has caught my attention, and I'm sure it catches the attention of the police as well.
