All DK Convenience Stores In Midland-Odessa, Texas Are Set To Change

When I moved to Odessa, Texas in January 2025, I happened to notice something.  Many of the convenience stores were the DK brand.  Honestly, before the move I had never even heard of DK.  However, the sheer amount of DK's in the area made me realize how prominent they are in the region.

Currently, there are around 22 DK gas stations in Midland and around 28 in Odessa.  If this were a giant metropolitan area, that is a good amount of locations but it wouldn't seem like a DK station would dominate the market.  However, since both Midland and Odessa are smaller, it is far easier to see all the locations as one of the renowned gas station brands in our corner of the Permian Basin.  Regardless, that is all about to change.

Back in October 2024, FEMSA, Mexico-based beverage bottler and convenience-store retailer, conducted a deal with Tennessee-based Dalek acquiring 249 DK convenience stores spread out in several states.  The DK stores will eventually all be rebranded as OXXO convenience stores.  A popular brand predominantly in Mexico.  Fast forward to March 2025, and Odessa was the first in the entire country.  OXXO has officially entered the US market.

But what about the other stores?  When will the conversation and rebrand reach all former DK stores locally?  While it was fantastic that OXXO chose Odessa as its initial location for the change, this is only 1 of 249.  It is going to take some time to convert every store.  According to FEMSA, there is no official timeline on when the full transformation will be completed.  It is assumed that many of the rebranding is going to occur simultaneously, but regardless it is still a massive undertaking to rebrand so many locations all at the same time.

In my opinion, I believe FEMSA is going to make this happen as quickly as they can.  Rumors have gone around that they are exceedingly eager to enter the US market so having said that, it wouldn't make much sense to delay for too long.  Only time will tell.  However, eventually all DK convenience stores will be long gone and only a memory.
