Texas 2000s Fashion: Brands We Loved & Lost
Walking down the hallways of OHS in Odessa there was plenty of styles that stood out. We can all agree that the early 2000s were a vibe, and fashion has done its part in returning some of the fashion. Remembering the boots with the fur to the tall T's we probably should have never worn. Nostalgia gets the best of most of us because reminiscing about the old days brings back a vigor we forget. Giving cheers to our high school days, I made a list of name-brand clothes that live in our heads rent-free.
PHAT FARM
Every kid had a pair of these shoes. They became so popular that people were buying the fakes with the backward P just to say they were part of the movement. I remember walking into school with the all-black shoes and thinking I was the coolest kid there. Close to the end of this trend, they started releasing the slide-ons. Probably good that wasn't long-lived.
APPLE BOTTLE JEANS
Every girl wanted that apple on the back of their jeans! Your apple bottom could not apple properly if you did not have a pair of these. Pair these up with a coat that had the fur around the hood and you were ready to strut your runway at the high school basketball game.
FUBU
For Us By Us was the pinnacle of hip-hop streetwear. This was a brand for every age group. Walking down the street you could see parents and their kids wearing FUBU. This brand was so versatile in products they had you covered literally from your head (hat) to your toes (shoes).
BATHING APE AKA BAPE
Talk about the shoe of the future. When these first hit the schools everyone thought that fashion had hit its peak and there was no coming back. The color combos were so unique, that there was no point in even trying to match your outfit. Just when you thought it couldn't get any better, the clear ones came out... Mic Drop!
JNCO JEANS
These were the wide-leg pants before wide-leg pants. Every skater, punk rock, grunge, and Slim Shady wanna-be had a pair of these on. No one knew what shoes were popular at this time because the jeans completely covered the shoes. All jokes aside, I did not know that's how you spelled JNCO.
ED HARDY
Talk about a clash of styles. I was the first to have on a trucker hat with a tiger on it and what was an outfit without the bedazzled shirt with flames? There was no question that Ed Hardy had us looking like we worked at the closest truck stop, but at least we sparkled.
BABY PHAT
Baby Phat has made a small comeback with the kids, but nothing compares to it at its peak in the early 2000s. The Baby Phat pink was iconic and could be spotted a mile away. This gave off luxury streetwear vibes. But nothing compared to the sleek cat logo that made us feel expensive.
JUICY COUTURE
Juicy is the ultimate velour tracksuit. Everyone had or wanted the pink and blue tracksuit with Juicy on the bum. You can deny it all you want but this tracksuit made an impact on everyone's fashion sense. And now that I think of it, Was this the start of athleisure?
VON DUTCH
Von Dutch is best known for its hats. Not as eclectic as Ed Hardy, but in the same trucker hat realm. Every person who was popular in the early 2000s could be seen wearing these hats. Von Dutch had B2K saying "Uh Huh" and Paris Hilton "Living the Simple Life".
SEAN JOHN
Even though that one guy is in some hot water. It doesn't take away from how big of an impact the clothing brand Sean John made in the fashion world. Artists were singing about it in songs and we were emptying the racks. And who didn't love J-Lo in that iconic all-white Sean John outfit at the VMAs?
