Texans are putting up their Christmas decorations. They're hanging Christmas lights, putting up stockings, and decorating the Christmas tree. Recently have been seeing all over social media about people washing their real Christmas trees before they put them up so I decided to look up why this is becoming a thing.

WHY PEOPLE ARE WASHING CHRISTMAS TREES

This can apply to both real and fake Christmas trees in your home. People are washing all the dirt and dust the trees have collected. Whether it's a real tree collected from being in nature or a fake tree collecting dust in the attic. If there is anyone in your household who is known to have allergies this could help them out greatly.

Real trees can come with a lot of guests in the branches. As many as 25,000 bugs can live in a freshly cut tree. This sounds absolutely terrifying but most of these bugs are harmless. Your house environment isn't suitable for the creepy crawlers so they will most likely dry up and die before they can make themselves at home.

HOW TO WASH YOUR TREE

The easiest way to wash your freshly cut Christmas tree is to rinse it off in the yard. Prop the tree up, get the water hose, and spray it down. This will help get all the dust and pollen off your tree and knock the critters out. If this isn't an option you can also vacuum your fresh tree to pull all the extra dirt, pollen, and bugs from the tree.

If you have an artificial Christmas tree, you can clean it by soaking it in the bathtub. Fill the tub with warm water and some mild soap, then let the dirt soak off. This is especially effective if you store your tree in a dusty place like the garage or attic.

This is a controversial topic with many people saying this is an unnecessary step. However, I think it's better to be safe than sorry!
