Jointly overseen by OpenAI, Oracle, and SoftBank, Stargate represents a multi-billion-dollar expansion of AI computing resources across several Texas locations, including the main campus in Abilene.

What is the Purpose of The Stargate Project?

A primary function of the project involves training and deploying large language models (LLMs), along with other sophisticated artificial intelligence systems.

The new Texas data centers are equipped with NVIDIA GB200 GPUs, facilitating both "training" the process of educating models using extensive datasets, and "inference" enabling models to interact with users.

The project's primary function also involves providing cloud infrastructure to support tools such as ChatGPT and other potential OpenAI products, as well as large-scale generative AI and AI workloads for external users via platforms like Oracle Cloud.

This infrastructure helps to reduce latency and scale capacity for businesses, researchers, and public sector entities within the region.

What Does That Mean Exactly?

Well, in a nutshell, the data facility will be used to make AI more efficient by training AI models, and also contribute to handling AI inquiries or requests from humans.
