Single? Or West Texas Single? What Does It All Mean?

Ever since I moved to West Texas in January 2025, I keep hearing references regarding the term "West Texas Single".  I lived in West Texas (El Paso) back in the early 2000s, but during the year I spent living there, I still had never heard the term nor its meaning.  Granted, something that we all may agree on is that El Paso West Texas definitely differs from Permian Basin West Texas.

"West Texas Single" is a term for individuals who are temporarily staying in the Permian Basin.  Whether, it is for a few days, weeks, or even months.  These men and women scour the dating scene looking for companionship.  The difference is, they are not single.  Typically, they have a wife, husband, or significant other waiting for them back home.  The term "West Texas Single" refers to temporary visitors looking to be single while they are staying in the area with full intention of eventually going back home to their partner.

In some situations, I have heard stories of some people who are bold enough to tell people that they meet that they are West Texas Single.  This usually gives off the impression that any dealings with them is only going to be for some short-term fun.  While for some that may be an instant turnoff, I have heard that there are still people who entertain such an agreement despite knowing that they have a partner back home where they came from.

Is this a problem?  Or is such a notion deserving acknowledgment for being upfront and honest- despite the level of deceit initially involved? Let me know how you feel about this.
