I have lived in The Lone Star State my whole life. Texas is a huge state so traveling can be long. I have been flying to more places the older I get because anything more than a 2-hour drive hurts my hips just thinking about it.

When I was a youngin' I loved going on long-distance drives. One of my favorites was driving from Odessa to Austin. Passing through the small towns with their unique beauty always captivated me. On this route are several older gorgeous bridges. They always fascinated me by making me wonder how long that old bridge has helped commuters access places they normally couldn't.

A BRIDGE PART OF TEXAS HISTORY

The Bluff Dale Suspension Bridge is located in Erath County Texas. The bridge has long been abandoned and is known as the oldest known suspended bridge in Texas built in 1890 by the Runyon Bridge Company over Paluxy River.

In 1934 the bridge was moved from its original spot on Stephenville-Granbury Road and relocated farther upstream. It remained open to the public until the early 1990s. Though they built a modern bridge next to the old bridge they left Bluff Dale Bridge up. You can't access the bridge today but you can still see it from its new replacement.
