Living in Midland-Odessa, Texas, just about everyone knows of the hit Tyler Sheridan Paramount Plus TV Show, Landman.  The show follows oilman Tommy Norris, played by actor Billy Bob Thornton, as he navigates life as the head of a West Texas oil company.

Filming Locations and Production

While the TV show takes place in Midland-Odessa, many locals were disappointed to discover that the main filming location of the show takes place in Fort Worth, Texas.  While there are scenes that are filmed here locally, producers of the show decided that Fort Worth would be more of an ideal filming location.

Regardless, we still got plenty of TV time in the first season.  Season 2's announcement did not come until April 2025; however, actual filming and pre-production had already been underway since March 2025.

Landman is not the first major film or television show to be filmed in our portion of the Permian Basin.  However, it is nice that Hollywood occasionally recognizes Midland-Odessa on film.  Having said that, some locals can't help but share secrets or inside info about these films and movies.

As of recently, film crews have been spotted in Midland-Odessa, and locals have taken to TikTok to share their experience.  After all, if the show takes place in our region, then it's only right that we see actual filming in and around Midland-Odessa.
