Last night kicked off the 2023 NFL Draft in Kansas City and the Houston Texans took no time to make draft history.

The Houston Texans had the #2 overall pick to begin with, and took Ohio State quarterback C. J. Stroud, but then made the bold move and traded four picks to the Arizona Cardinals to get the #3 pick to nab Alabama defensive end Will Anderson.

That is the highest a team has had back-to-back picks in the first round since 1992 When the Indianapolis Colts had the first two picks in that draft.

This shows me that the Houston Texans are trying to make up for the horrible trades former coach Bill O'Brien made with the Texans' picks giving them away like candy to kids at Halloween.

This has prevented Houston from being able to rebuild a team that was totally screwed up by a former coach.

Houston got started back on track to at least try to be one of the elite teams in the NFL by fortifying the offense and defense in those back-to-back picks in the top 5 of the draft.

Two first-round picks are not unusual in the NFL draft but has there ever been a team that had numerous first-round picks in the NFL Draft? There has.

in 2000, the New York Jets made draft history by having four first-round picks in the NFL Draft.

Bill Parcells was the head coach of the Jets at that time and with those four picks they got defensive linebackers Shaun Ellis and John Abraham at #12 & #13, quarterback Chad Pennington at #18, and tight end Anthony Becht at #27.

Ellis and Abraham rank in the top 5 sacks for the Jets and Pennington got the team into three playoffs.

The jury is still out on whether this move could bring a Lombardi Trophy to Houston for the first time in that city's history, but we will see what they do in the rest of the 2023 NFL Draft.

LOOK: The story behind every NFL team name

Stacker delved into the story behind every NFL football team name. Overall team records, also included, are reflective of NFL regular-season games. There are some football teams with well-known nicknames—the Jets, for instance, are often referred to as Gang Green—but we also divulge how some teams’ official names are sparingly used (the Jets’ neighbors, the Giants, are actually known as the New York Football Giants). Sometimes a team name can tell you a lot about local history: The Vikings of Minnesota draw upon the area’s strong ties to Scandinavia, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are dripping in local legend related to Florida’s pirate past.

Let’s kick off the countdown with the folks who earned their nickname by buying boxes of used team jerseys.
