Inside the Big Spring Holiday Dance That Refuses To Die
The holiday season in West Texas can be a memorable experience.
While some individuals experience stress and tension during the latter half of the year due to the approaching holidays, many others feel an undeniable sense of cheer.
One group in particular is making strides to celebrate despite shortcomings and obstacles that have been placed in their way. Enter the Boot Scootin' Christmas Ball.

Big Spring and the Boot Scootin' Christmas Ball
What makes this event so endearing is the heart behind it. It’s more than just a dance; it’s a piece of Big Spring’s soul.
This is a reminder of how community survives through generosity, togetherness, and a shared love of good music and great company.
For some people, this is a major outlet for socializing.
Facing Adversity and the Triumph of the Kindness of Others
Several years ago, a fire destroyed the original building that hosted the group’s monthly dances.
This was a huge blow to the local seniors who relied on it as their place to socialize.
With nowhere to go, the dances were almost lost for good. But in true Texas fashion, neighbors came together, and Ryan Hall opened its doors.
What started as a small gathering of around 30 seniors has now grown into a lively, all-ages, family-friendly monthly tradition held on the first Friday of every month.
Boot Scootin' Christmas Ball 2025
Set for Saturday, December 6th, from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, the dance will take place at Ryan Hall, 605 N. Main, thanks to the generosity of North Side, who stepped up when the community needed it most.
The Christmas Ball is the biggest dance of the year, and the flyer says it all: polished boots, country charm, and good old-fashioned fun.
For just $15 general admission, guests can enjoy an evening filled with music by Mike and Karen Leonard, a silent auction, raffle prizes, and plenty of warm holiday spirit.
