This year’s Boot Scootin Christmas Ball is about to remind us all why local traditions matter so much, especially after the challenges faced. A true celebration awaits.

Big Spring, Texas—just a short drive from Midland-Odessa—was hit hard by recent storms, with 119 mph winds causing major damage to homes and businesses. A viral TikTok video gives a firsthand look at the aftermath, while city officials continue to assess and respond.

One of our favorite things to do this time of year is drive around with Christmas carols playing, drinking hot cocoa and look at Christmas lights. If you have not yet done this with your family this year, I have a couple of places to suggest, some are a short drive to small towns in the area but well worth it especially if you are new to the area.

The 2019 Butterfly Release and Family Celebration with Home Hospice kicks off this weekend. You, your family and friends are invited to honor your precious memories of loved ones. Tomorrow, April 27th the event will be in Midland from 2-4 p.m. at the Carrasco Room on the Midland College Campus. On Sunday, April 28th, from 2-4 p.m. in Big Spring in Garrett Hall at the First United Methodist Church.

The Howard College cheer, dance and mascot try-outs are happening soon in Big Spring! If you are interested in attending Howard College in the fall, make plans to attend the try-out clinic on Saturday, May 4th at 1 pm at the Dance Lab, 1512 Birdwell Lane in Big Spring, TX. There you will learn 1 dance and 1 cheer, then try-outs will be held the following day....
