Best Songs of the Week Featuring Gucci Mane, Post Malone and More
With the second complete week of September in the books, it's time for the latest installment of XXL's Best Songs of the Week. With a healthy balance of melodic bangers and solid lyricism flooding the internet, it was definitely a good last several days to be a fan of hip-hop.
This week, Gucci Mane and The Weeknd pulled up with "Curve," a song about flipping the script on opportunistic baddies. For his part, Weeknd delivers some lines that are so stone-cold it's hard to believe they come from someone with a voice so angelic. Gucci matches the chilly vibes with some of his own well-honed bragging. The track should appear on Gucci's Mr. Davis album.
Next up is "Practice," a track that finds Chynna stringing together one coldly delivered and well-rhymed boast after the other as she pedals over a menacing Heaven In Stereo instrumental. It sounds like her heart rate didn't fluctuate at all when she was recording her verses, which is very 21 Savage-esque. The song is from her forthcoming Music 2 Die 2 EP. If the rest of it is anything like this, it should be dope.
Post Malone signaled the coming of his Beerbongs and Bentleys album earlier this week when he dropped off "Rockstar," a fire new collab with 21 Savage. Featuring piano that somehow sounds sentimental and ominous simultaneously, the new Tank God and Louis Bell-produced track finds Post does his thing with melodic boasts, while 21 delivers his typically monotone flow and comes with a few quotable bars of his own.
This week also marked the return of Blu & Exile, who pulled up with "Constellations," a soulful offering from their forthcoming Below the Heavens prequel album, In the Beginning: Before the Heavens. With a bouncy organ, well-crafted rhyme schemes and a uplifting lyricism from Blu, the track brings us right back to the moment the pair dropped their classic joint effort 10 years ago. There was no way this wasn't going to make our list.
Last but not least is "Never Miss," a new offering from G Perico, Cardo and Jay Worthy, who've recently formed a new trio by the name of G-Worthy. With a bouncy West Coast beat and ruthless lyrics, "Never Miss" feels like a modern day G-Funk banger that could've easily been played in 1994.
Enough with what we have to say, though. Check out all the best songs of the week for yourself below.
