We use to call them the "$1 Movies". Yep, theaters that would show movies for $1! Yep, no kidding, $1! It might surprise a younger generation, but there was a time when you could go to a 'discounted' movie theater.

MOVIES WERE ONLY A  $1

In the 90's, there were certain movie theaters that would show MOVIES that had already ran it's course at the FULL PRICE theaters. After about 1 month or 2, the full price movies would then go to the 'discounted theaters', which most people called the dollar movies because a ticket did only cost 1 dollar! AND, remember 50 cent Tuesdays?

One of the last $1 Movie theaters in Odessa was the location next to where Lowe's in Odessa is behind the Music City Mall where Flex 24 is now. Cinemore 7 showed movies for $1.50 and opened in 1993. In 1996 it was bought by the Mall and renamed Cinema 7 and eventually named Dollar Cinema. It closed in 2006.

$1 HOT DOGS AND MORE!

AH yes, the $1 Dollar Movies. I can remember you could buy a Hot Dog for $1 as well. Other things I remember about the $1 movies.

  • Sticky Floors
  • The 'FILM' being jumpy in certain places
  • 1st come 1st serve...you better come early and grab your seat!
  • NO reclining seats and NO legroom

AND IT WAS ALL WORTH IT! LOL, What do you remember about the $1 movies here in the Permian Basin?
