Here in the Permian Basin the heat always seems to linger. While most are ready for the cold, others like myself love to slow roast in the heat. If you have lived in the Midland-Odessa area you know it gets cold just in time for Halloween. There can be benefits to cold weather. You can pull out your favorite coats, let's be honest, we can only use them for two months in West Texas. Lawn work is almost virtually gone during the colder months. To everyone's relief, all the bugs are dead, except the bees. We like the bees.

Now I know you are wondering when the first freeze will decide to settle in the area. Being from the Permian Basin, I know how unpredictable the weather can be out here. According to the Texas Weather Guide, we should expect the first freeze around November 13th. Just a warning, this is based on yearly averages but it's always nice to have a little heads-up. But don't forget, this is West Texas, we can experience every season in one week.

I remember one of the heaviest snowfalls I experienced was during April. I was living in West Odessa and we decided to visit my aunt down the street at her Springwood Apartment. When we exited the car the snow was almost to my knees. I was also 10 so maybe that's not a good scale. Long story short, anything can happen out here.
