What The Different Colored Porch Lights Mean In Texas
Driving around my town of Midland I would always see porch lights of different colors. I automatically assumed that people just wanted to shake things up with a different porch light. If I saw it in October, I just assumed any of the different colors correlated with the spooky season.
One day I overheard someone talking about their purple porch light and what it symbolized. To my surprise, many porch lights symbolize different things. Here are some of the most popular colors and their significance.
BLUE PORCH LIGHT
This light can have several different meanings. The first one is in support of your local law enforcement. The most common is for autism awareness and last but not least it also shows support for Alopecia Areata awareness.
RED PORCH LIGHT
Red is usually used to support your local firefighters. It is also used during American Heart Month in February or as a cute decoration for Valentine's Day.
PURPLE PORCH LIGHT
The purple porch light is to help bring awareness to domestic survivors, especially in October for Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
PINK PORCH LIGHT
Pink is famously known to represent breast cancer awareness. October is breast cancer awareness month and when the color is typically used.
GREEN PORCH LIGHT
Green can show support for US Veterans and people actively in the military. It can also be used in remembrance on Memorial Day, Lyme Disease Awareness Month in May, and St Patrick's Day on March 17th.
ORANGE PORCH LIGHT
Of course, we automatically associate orange with Halloween but also used for National Gun Violence Awareness Day in June.
