Toss Up? Texans Debate How To Say Whataburger or Waterburger?
Let's get one thing clear. However, you say it, Whataburger rules in Texas. Whataburger is as much Texas as is Dr. Pepper! So recently, when I saw a Texas Facebook Group throw out a debate on Whataburger, it definitely got my attention.

It's kind of funny. There is a debate on how TEXANS say Whataburger? I never really even thought about it until I saw the post. Then I started to ask myself, "How do I say it?"
So what's the debate? Either TEXANS say WHATABURGER or say it like a glass of water, WATERBURGER.
SOME TEXANS PRONOUNCE IT LIKE WATER BURGER
So, one side of the debate says that true Texans pronounce it like the word WATER, then the last word BURGER.

For the longest time I thought it was actually Waterburger. Grew up and realized I was sooo wrong.

I was super confused the first time I heard someone say Whataburger when I lived in Illinois. We definitely pronounced it waterburger where I grew up and currently live.

My Grandfather said he remembered when they open the first one and that's all he knew it as…waterburger
SOME TEXANS SAY IT LIKE WHAT A BURGER
So, the other side of the debate says they say it like the way it's spelled. As if it were 3 words. WHAT is one word followed by A, then the last word BURGER.

Hard Nope‼ I was probably about 7 years old when I saw my first What-a-Burger in Tyler, Texas. Never called it waterburger.

Going through the comments on that post, I would say it was pretty much split down the middle. As for me, I pronounce it with a SMILE ON MY FACE! Cause it doesn't matter to me as long as I'm eating some awesome food from Whataburger!
