The Weeknd has been having a great year. The big, extended rollout for his new album Starboy has obviously paid off, as the album debuted at the top spot of the Billboard 200, making it the third biggest debut of the year.

Led by the singles, "Starboy" and "False Alarm" and propelled by a gritty short film, Mania, the Toronto singer pulled out all of the stops ahead of his release. The 18-track album features Daft Punk, Lana Del Rey and Kendrick Lamar. Not only did he hit No. 1 on Billboard, Spotify announced last week that he broke Justin's Bieber's record for most streams in a day, breaking the previous record of 36 million streams.

As for his top spot on the Billboard 200, The Weeknd earned 348,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Dec. 1, according to Nielsen Music. He clocks in behind only Drake's Views (1.04 million units) and Beyoncé's Lemonade (653,000) for the biggest debut of 2016.

Starboy is the singer's second No.1 album in just two years, following 2015's Beauty Behind the Madness.
