Here’s a question for you: is it time to add Vin Diesel to the list of actors whose career is defined entirely by a single film franchise? Sure, Diesel has shown up in other successful movies throughout his careers — Saving Private Ryan, The Iron Giant, and Guardians of the Galaxy have all been critical and commercial successes, not to mention his more niche productions like Find Me Guilty and his Riddick movies — but none of this holds a candle to his work on the Fast and Furious franchise. He’s been producer, screenwriter, and star of those movies for over 16 years now… I mean, nobody goes up to William Shatner and praises him for his work in Judgment at Nuremberg, right?
It seems appropriate that the new international trailer for The Fate of the Furious is rather…international, taking the crew from New York to Cuba to the arctic (it’s like Fury Road but with, like, ice) for the eighth (!) installment of the franchise. The next chapter of the awesomely soapy action series looks like a pretty juicy one, as Vin Diesel’s Dom straight-up abandons his family for Charlize Theron (who wouldn’t) and her questionable hairstyle.
Remember how there’s going to be another xXx movie? Remember how the trailer has Vin Diesel skiing through a jungle? Remember how it’s going to be awesome? Well, in case you forgot it was happening, Paramount released a dozen new character posters for xXx: Return of Xander Cage’s ridiculously large cast.
Last year, Helen Mirren declared her love for the Fast & Furious franchise and, in particular, Vin Diesel, who was pretty convinced that Furious 7 could win the Oscar for Best Picture. It looks like Fast 8 will have a much better chance of securing a nomination (at the very least) as Mirren says she’s joined the cast of the upcoming sequel. And now we patiently wait as the greatest friendship of our time blossoms, inevitably yielding a series of delightful photos featuring Mirren and Diesel.
Breaking news: people all over the world really like fast cars, movie stars, and constant references to family. Related: Furious 7 has just become the third highest grossing movie of all time, overtaking 2012’s The Avengers.
