And, while the video is several years old, you get a good glimpse of what the Astrodome looks like standing pretty much alone.
• INSIDE THE ASTRODOME ALMOST 15 YEARS AFTER CLOSING!
The Astrodome is the world's first multi-purpose, domed sports stadium, located in Houston, Texas. It opened up in 1965!
• THE ASTRODOME WAS HOME TO MANY PROFESSIONAL SPORTS TEAMS IN TEXAS!
When it first opened up it served as home to the Houston Astros of Major League Baseball . It was home for the Astros until 1999. It was also home to the Houston Oilers of the National Football League (NFL) from 1968 until 1996. And yes it was home to the Houston Rockets of the National Basketball Association from 1971 until 1975.
• NICKNAMED 8TH WONDER OF THE WORLD WHEN IT OPENED!
• THE ASTRODOME CLOSED DOWN IN 2008!
After being abandoned for years, the Astrodome was declared non-compliant with the fire code by the Houston Fire Department in 2008, and parts of it were demolished in 2013.
• WILL IT EVER BE DEMOLISHED?
Will the Astrodome ever be demolished?, not likely, in 2014 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places!! And, though there have been several PLANS to do things with the building, nothing has ever really come of it. Will it ever be renovated as it deserves!!???
