No License Needed To Be Married In The State Of Texas-Just Agree To It!
It's officially February--the month of LOVE. There are a LOT of marriage proposals on Valentine's Day-so even though many guys brush the holiday off as just another "Hallmark Holiday"--it's also a landmark day (next only to a Christmas proposal) to pop the big question. And anyone who's ever been the asker or the askee knows there's a lot of pre-planning that goes into the whole thing... Of course, you want it to be a memorable event for everyone--so flowers, location (maybe the same spot you met or had your first date), maybe other family members included in attendance as a surprise, or a best friend from out of town to come in and witness... The speech / what you're going to say--And the biggest part--THE RING.
One thing though-at least according to this old Texas State law that we've uncovered--that you DON'T have to worry about--is getting a Marriage License. As long as both parties agree to be married, as long as both parties announce the other as their husband / as their wife in public three times, tell others you're married and live together as a married couple... Then in the eyes of the State of Texas--you're legally married. Just a couple of things though--you have to be a legal adult aged 18 or over, you can't already be married to someone else--and you can't already be related in any way. As long as you have those three bases covered-you're all set in Texas.
So skip the clerks' office and skip the fees and just shout it from the rooftops. Probably makes it easier to walk away if things don't work out as you planned...
