A cold front is in our near future! That means some cooler and more comfortable temperatures as well as a small chance for some rain. Now, don't get too terribly excited about the precipitation. Right now it is only at about a 20% chance -- meaning that out of the 29 counties in the South Plains, only about six will likely see these storms, but beggars can't be choosers!

When The Forecast Will Change

Beginning Saturday night, the cold front will slowly slide across the region, exiting midday on Sunday. This will allow our temperatures to plummet from the triple digits highs expected on Saturday afternoon into the upper 80's on Sunday. Monday and Tuesday will dip slightly more into the mid-80's before returning to the low 90's for the remainder of the work week. This will put us below average for the first time since June 8, 2022. .

In terms of rain, it will mostly be falling in the northeastern counties, but there is a slight chance that a little rain could fall in the Hub City on Sunday night into Monday morning. However, what we have a better chance of is some humidity in the forecast so be prepared for some muggy conditions.

While this isn't the perfect situation, it is a nice change from the dry heat and the upper 90's and triple digits that have been plaguing the region. This also mirrors the projections that the Climate Prediction Center forecasted. In case you missed it, while it will still be hot, models are indicating more average conditions for the remainder of Summer.

Still make sure to wear the sunscreen and stay hydrated, but if you have outdoor projects to tend to, you might hold off until next week when conditions will be more comfortable.
