Not only are people flocking to Texas but so are big business and now movie studios. Many have often characterized Austin as a smaller Hollywood. Austin has many similarities with Los Angeles like its music and movie scene as well as its liberal mindset.

Hill Country Studios Is On The Way

It is no secret that people and big businesses are crossing the Texas border as fast as they can to take advantage of Texas not having a state tax, the movie industry is no different. Two weeks ago the city of San Marcos Council voted to approve a tax incentive package for Hill Country Studio, which has proposed the construction of a $267 million, 820,000-square-foot film and television production center in the master-planned community of La Cima.

Hill Country Studios will feature 12 different sound stages, over 300,000 square feet of office space, and 50 seat screening theater. The land around the area will be available for commercial vender and retail space as well as a full restaurant. Construction is to be completed in 2023, but no exact date has been released. We also do not know what movies may or may not be set to film in San Marcos. One thing I do know is that it will be easier to become an extra.

With any new business opening up in an area, it will mean more jobs and revenue for the city. This also may open up doors for more people who are chasing that Hollywood dream.

When Tyler Perry opened his film studio in Atlanta, many actors/actresses were given opportunities they may have not gotten elsewhere.
