I LOOOOOOOOVE local artists of every genre. Hip hop, Rock, Metal, Punk, you name it I love it. I was in a local/texas band for over 10 years and we put a ton of work into our music to play gigs all around Texas for little to no money.
I think a lot of people over look local music thinking that its lacking in talent compared to national and world wide artists. People doing music simply for the love of music is ALWAYS a good thing. I don’t think anything makes for a better evening than going to a show and being BLOWN AWAY by a band or an artist only to find out they grew up in the same area you did. Every big national act you can think of started off as “just a local.”
The 432 is often brought up as a place with “nothing to do”. The great thing about “nothing to do” is it generates a TON of creativity. Some of music’s biggest legends come from very small towns. Last night I saw a 20 year old kid born and raised in Midland SHRED guitar riffs that dropped the jaws of the guitarists of the very well known and famous band they were opening for. Nothing is cooler than hearing an artist on the radio that you actually knew before they were signed. I know a few people who are now in signed world wide touring groups. It still seems weird to see them on TV knowing where they came from and who they are as a person. I guess the point I’m trying to make is, support local music. You never know when you’re going to flip on the TV and see that someone you’re on a first name basis with has managed to hit the top 200 charts. Here’s a group of guys I bump elbows with from time to time called Track City. Odessa born and bred artists who love the music and live every word of what they say. Tell me this ain’t hot! Texas Reppin’!
