Kodak Black Sings From a Jail Phone on ASAP Rocky’s New Song “Calldrops”
A$AP Rocky's Testing album is finally here, and while he has a slew of features on the project, one that particularly stands out comes from Kodak Black. The Florida rapper lends his vocals to the Harlem native's "Calldrops" record, which hears him crooning straight from a prison phone.
The A$AP Mob member's new song serves as more of an interlude on the studio LP, as it slows down the upbeat vibe of the rest of the album. While Rocky delivers some trippy bars in the beginning, the end concludes with Black calling in from a jail phone to deliver some vocals that address some of his pain.
"All the pain I went through, turned to a singer/I put it all on my tattoos, 'cause of where I came from," he serenades.
The Project Baby 2 spitter's verse also features the disclaimer from the jail phone service that the call is being recorded, with the call suddenly being dropped at the end, hence the title of the song.
If you recall, Kodak is currently serving 364 days behind bars on a slew of gun and marijuana possession charges, but he may be released early on good behavior. He already had served 90 days prior to the sentencing since he was incarcerated following his arrest in January. Police originally raided Kodak's home and arrested him after seeing his Instagram Live stream that showed him smoking weed and brandishing guns around a small child.
