Killeen, Texas Topped Robocall Charts With 19 Million Calls In July
Have you been getting a ton of spam calls recently? If so, you are not alone, especially if you live in Killeen.
Surge in Automated Robocalls Hits Killeen
Central Texans are finding themselves among the most targeted mobile phone users in the nation as automated robocalls surge to levels not seen in over a year. Tracking data compiled by the call-screening platform YouMail reveals that Americans were bombarded with roughly 4.4 billion robocalls during the month of July 2026. The sharp increase is driven largely by aggressive telemarketing operations and suspected fraudulent schemes.

Many of us receive automated calls from doctors and other businesses that we interact with, but the sheer volume of unsolicited traffic makes it hard to know whether the call is legit. The single most frequent call campaign in July featured prerecorded offers for personal loans promising low monthly payments. According to Fox 44, analysts at YouMail warned that these widespread solicitations bear the hallmarks of illegal telemarketing from foreign countries.
Areas Hardest Hit by Spam Calls
While robocall activity climbed nationwide, specific regions experienced crazy spikes. Phone numbers tied to area codes across Texas, Georgia, and Indiana recorded some of the largest month-over-month jumps. In Killeen, the local 254 area code absorbed more than 19.3 million robocalls in July alone, representing a 9 percent increase compared to June. Major population hubs such as Houston, Atlanta, and Indianapolis also ranked near the top of the list for overall volume gains.
Despite Anti-Spam Laws, Spammers Gonna Spam
Despite updated enforcement standards introduced by the Federal Communications Commission in recent years, bad actors continue to find loopholes. YouMail Chief Executive Alex Quilici said that a small group of underlying telecommunication carriers may be profiting from allowing illicit high-volume traffic onto telephone networks. To combat the problem, bipartisan legislation cosponsored in the U.S. Senate by Senator Peter Welch aims to tighten restrictions and penalize fraudulent networks originating from overseas.
Steps to Take to Block Spam Calls
If you are sick of the spam calls, you can enroll in the National Do Not Call Registry. This will help deter law-abiding marketing firms, but it does not stop rogue scammers. Security analysts recommend letting calls from unknown or suspicious numbers go directly to voicemail. When verifying urgent claims regarding bank accounts, utilities, or medical services, call the business directly. Do not respond to the number of incoming calls.
